What is a afsp?

AFSP participants complete an annual IRS continuing-education program and receive a Record of Completion. They have limited rights to represent clients on returns they prepared.

For return preparation by a preparer who keeps current through annual IRS education.

How to verify a preparer

Confirm the credential in the IRS Directory of Federal Tax Return Preparers
Ask for their PTIN and make sure they sign the return they prepare
For CPAs, attorneys, and state-regulated preparers, check the issuing state board or program
